I can't think of another collection of short stories that so thoroughly examined the role of alcohol in problem solving. Trying to decide if you are hallucinating? Have a drink. Troubled by technology you don't understand? Pour yourself some rye. Overwhelmed by your responsibilities as a parent? Hunted by a talking cat? Accidentally killed a man? Intentionally killed a man? Obviously, step one is some form of whiskey. With only one exception, every story here includes a stiff drink as part of any problem solving process. And that exception only serves to highlight that sobriety does not improve outcomes.
