If you have a bunch of neatly categorized boxes that all your urban fantasy series fit into, a set of character arcs that are destined, or an aversion to bad things happening to good people, this is probably not the series for you. For me, though, it's a breath of fresh air.
I'd read a couple of reviews that said this one wasn't as strong as the first, and I have to wonder what on Earth they are talking about. Actually, I don't. I just have to accept that many people are wrong about many things.
I hope at some point there are more of these.
