In part, Leviathan Wakes works because it uses ingredients I already love to make a hell of an entertaining dish. It's fresh raspberries served on a flourless chocolate cake baked to perfection. While the dark chocolate goodness is still present in Caliban's War (welding, anyone?), the authors have also thrown in a few things I hate.
I am so tired of strong women literally kicking ass. I think politics is the worst thing mankind has ever invented. When I heard that the two new female POV characters were a marine and a politician, I wouldn't describe my reaction as excited.
About three chapters in, I was completely hooked and didn't want to put it down. I love this book. Not in spite of those elements. Not because of those elements. I just fucking love this book.
